Only around 30 cars of this classic were ever produced. No doubt a rather high reving 6.0l V12 is and will become ever more scarce in the future.
2 of them have been recently driving in the Spa Classic grid and the sound is beautifully transferred into the game, where it lives on mostly covered on the virtual garages.
However, its not as slow as you'd think. It certainly produces a lot less downforce than the modern era cars. The lack of a diffusor makes any rake irrelevant to the downforce distribution and it has absolutely no pitch sensitivity, which gives the car roughly the same behavior in all driving situations.
The electronics and the TC in particular are more reminiscent of an old Spitfire than a driving aid. But with a gentle foot it will reward you with some traction and if you focus a lot on the corner exit, the engine will push you to unrivalled straight line speed. Despite the high revs it allows, you can savely shortshift in all but the last gear, as the grunt of the engine is topping out way below the 7000 rpm mark.
While it does not have the ultimate quali pace, it does benefit from fuel loads the same as all the front engine cars, as now the weight distribution is much more even and the rear tires actually find some bite in the ground. You'll find the race trim much more pleasing than the quali laps.
Adjustments
- None needed, really
- Keep the higher ABS as it gives consistency on the brake. With lower levels the fronts can just lock up unrecoverably
- probably the TC is best used when its off, especially in the slower turns there might be laptime hidden with it on 0
- you can get a bit more rotation out of the car with higher rear anti roll bars, yet only in the race trim, as in qualifying it is detrimental to rear traction
- this will also help keeping front temperatures in check
- once it gets warmer than the 23C consider going to duct 6 on the front
- lower rear wing might help as the front is still the limiting factor in most fast corners and it will also provide more top end. For this setup I chose a very drivable rear wing
- the brake bias is on the edge for the last corner in Q trim as the rears tend to lock up in the transition, while in race the rears can deal with it
It's a second off the pace of the likes of Ferrari, Audi, Porsche or BMW, but it certainly beats the Jaguar and isn't too far off the 2nd tier cars
Afterall, its enjoyable. I'm sure this setup translates to other tracks with only tiny adjustments, too.
