Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Data & Setup Pack for Spa.

Approach
The target is a reliable rear end that will not surprise you and let you know before it lets go. A general issue of the Porsche is too cold fronts and too hot rears. Both will be much better with this setup. The setup is operating without any negative toe and thus gives much more consistent driving behavior than typical eSpOrTs Setups.

Spa
The ultimate challenge for this car. The high speed turns hold a lot of lap time and therefor we need to get the car to rotate here. The problem is that the slower corners will become more oversteery as a result. I tried to find a balance where we will get rotation in the fast turns, but keep the car in check in the slower turns. If its too aggressive for you, there are plenty of adjustments to sort it out.

The other tricky bit here is to know where to place the car and how to avoid the car from bouncing especially in quali with no weight on the front axle. In eau rouge the timing of the downshift, paired with the throttle in put to ease the engine brake effect are crucial to maintain speed - at the same time you cannot be too aggressive with the steering as the rear will bounce a tiny bit resulting in the rpm hitting the limiter and you will lose speed. As little steering is possible is advised after the initial turn in. For all other turns late apexes are your friend, the more straight the car is, the less issues with the rear you will have. The brake bias plays a huge role here. Lower will generally help with braking distance and turn in, but it risks to lock the rear tires. If you get it just right, the car will turn in very nicely. But don't shy away to go more stable (forward).

You have a lot of impact on the car behavior depending how quickly, how sharp your inputs are. The less sudden you are, especially in transitions, the more likely the car will stay stable. An example with the throttle is the exit of Bruxelles where you can perform a "soft upshift" where you will ease off the throttle a little bit when going from 2nd to 3rd. Something that keeps occuring in the Cup car on other tracks, too, when the gearing just doesn't fit the corner.

Adjustments
There is rotation to gain by adding more front camber or more rake.

More oversteer (general/mid turn/exit):

  • more front camber
  • more rake
  • less wing (not a good idea though)

More oversteer (brake/entry):

  • reduce brake bias (not advised for the stint, as it wears the rears more under braking)

More understeer

  • higher front ride height / lower rear ride height (this will hurt pouhon)
  • even less front camber
  • one extra click of rear wing
  • higher brake bias

Race

The setup should start off rather stable and slowly get more oversteery throughout the stint. The fuel is set for the full hour including formation lap. Keep your cool, you need to keep the rear tires alive :)

Hi Nils, I have all your 992 GT3 R setups for my Porsche and interested to learn the cup car to do mixed class in my league, are these setups still valid for 1.9.7?
